Best Practices for Writing Local Quality Assessment Items

In this three-part series, districts choosing to create their own pre-tests and/or post-tests will learn the requirements and best practices needed to create quality assessments for student growth.

Module 1: TEKS Alignment, Bias and Sensitivity 

In this first installation, districts will learn to align assessment items to TEKS and understand the implications of bias and sensitivity to ensure assessments remain reliable and fair.

Module 2: Language, Vocabulary, and Constructing an Effective Stem

In this second installation, districts will learn best practices for language and vocabulary when constructing item types and how to construct an effective stem.

Module 3: Constructing Effective Answer Choices and Visuals

In this third and final installation, districts will learn best practices for constructing answer choices and visual aids in assessments.
